Bill Holsag

I worked for the CBS Television Network producing promos, from 1981 to 2010. By then I’d had enough promo and almost got busted making underground films on the lot. It was time I quit. Retirement lasted about 5 minutes. Soon I began writing, producing, and directing episodes of two micro-budget Web Series: Detective Henderson and the Silver Lake Menace, and Bill: Paranormal Investigator. I have big ego, and have a New Jersey mouth. Great combo. So step back if you piss me off. I hope you get a kick out of my writing. Visit Bill's YouTube channel and watch Bill: Paranormal Investigator.

I’m 100% Sure You Need A Good Enemy

Losing a good enemy is a lot like losing a good friend. We may not call them enemies, but we all have them – real and supposed. When a good friend dies the loss is heavy and can manifest itself in many ways. Some people grow stronger. Others withdraw. Anger erupts and emotional resiliency is erased. In psychological terms – they’re a Mess. What will I do now? Who will I hang out with? Who sees thi

The Grand Oblivate

Isolation. There’s the rub. It’s eroding. Eating away, happily munching on our friendships, communication skills, perceptions, our sense of the aesthetic. People passing a hallucinogenic sunset with their faces fixed downward, focused not on the magnificent flamingo tinged orb in the sky. But rather on a tiny device in their hands. It’s jaw dropping to witness. “See not the beauty all around you,

Men Love To Blow Stuff Up

Let’s go blow something up. I’m not talking terrorism. I don’t want anyone to get hurt. I just want to blow something up, just for fun. Make some noise. Not a criminal act. I mean, let’s make something explode! Not set it on fire, not throw it out the window. Not take a sledge hammer to it. Blow it up, I say. Blow the fuck out of it. Like my neighbors do every chance they get. My neighbors celebra

TV’s First Generation

I was born the day television was invented. I remember when the television was turned off it left a bright white spot in the center of the screen. The family traipsing upstairs to bed while, alone, I’d move in, way too close to the screen, and sadly watch the white dot gradually fade to black as the television died. I’d stare, transfixed, until the ghost was gone. When I was 5 years old I’d get up

The Oscars Get It Right With Parasite

I don’t follow any of the awards season hoopla, I don’t watch the Oscars and I don’t usually give a shit who wins what. But if you do, or if you just want to see a great movie, go see Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite. It’s jaw dropping. I had to use both hands to shut my mouth exiting the theater. My eyes popped like Peter Lorre’s. (Too obscure? Google him.) Parasite is not what you think. Whatever you’re

But I Digress…

Everyone’s writing essays on aging. It’s tortuous. It’s like sitting on the front porch of the County Rest Home listening to geezer talk: My knee, my hip, my back. What? My knee, my hip, my back. What? My essay on aging is about to go off the rails. You want some advice on aging? It’s free. What on earth could be more annoying than unasked for free advice? Other than getting bitten by a small snak
