The Only Salty Dog Recipe You’ll Ever Need

Salty Dog: Greyhound With A Twist

You’ve heard of the greyhound cocktail right? The gin/grapefruit simple classic cocktail? That’s an easy, simple drink to whip out in a pinch. While the drink is popular among many, in the 1950’s, George Jessel decided that adding coarse salt to the rim would break the bitterness of the grapefruit juice. This became the salty dog. Eventually the drink started being made with vodka, but can still be interchanged between the two, depending on your preference. For some reason, unbeknownst to me, gin scares people and vodka has become the preferred spirit.

How To Elevate A Classic

A vodka/grapefruit juice with a salted rim is a standalone awesome drink, but this recipe takes it to another level. Adding a little lime and sugar helps break the bitterness and gives you a cocktail you can drink over and over… and over again. Thank us later.

In addition to the lime and sugar, the best thing you can do to insure that this cocktail is perfect, is to NOT buy bottled grapefruit juice and fresh squeeze your own. Grapefruits are huge and one should more than do the job!
