The old saying “Walk a mile in another person’s shoes” before judging them rings true in Paulina Porizkova’s new autobiographical book “No Filter.” Porizkova is a supermodel, actress, author, and women’s advocate who has been in the public eye since she was a young child. She has for most of her life been under the social media microscope and often subjected to public criticism and ridicule.
In “No Filter,” Paulina opens up her world to us, worts and all. From her difficult, and at times, dangerous childhood in Czechoslovakia, being bullied as a young girl in a new country, achieving sudden fame and fortune as a supermodel, experiencing self-doubt and insecurities, and finding love and betrayal, she offers insights not only into her complicated life but also how each of us is at the mercy of superficial judgements by others of who we are.
“No Filter” is a study of the constant journey that we all are on to define ourselves, to create our identity, to love ourselves, and ultimately break free of the outside world’s perception of who we are or should be.
Most of us, as we get older, are more likely to ignore the judgement and criticism by others because it just doesn’t matter. Especially for Manopause men! But we’ve all been through the judgement gauntlet during our lives–professionally and personally–and that can leave the scars of insecurity, doubt, and depression. Porizkova’s story, at its core, is everyone’s story of survival, self-awareness, and ultimate triumph.
