Gray Hair, Don’t Care: Great Tips For The Changing Colors Of Your Mane

Gray Hair Is Nothing But A New Look

As you grow older, so does your hair. There’s something comical about how much attention we give to our hair given the fact we all know that someday, we will have little to no control over the outcome of it. However, there are ways to prolong the aging process, and to make the best of your hair situation.

What we’re saying is use what you’ve got. Don’t make “hair today, gone tomorrow” a self-fulfilling prophecy. With some simple tips and maintenance, you can continue looking like your best self.

Downplay Your Hairline

Our hairline recedes as we grow older. That’s just a fact of life. But you don’t have to take it lying down. Your hair on top gets thinner first, so dealing with the top before it vanishes into thin hair (see what I did there?), is the first priority.

Don’t comb your hair straight or to the back; otherwise it will accentuate the widow’s peak or receding hairline. Comb your hair with your hands to the side to give the image of voluminous hair. Creating the illusion of a wave gives the hair lift, length, and a perception of thickness.

Get the Right Cut

Get a nice and neat low-fade on the sides and the back. Having a subtle fade will detract attention from the top of the hair, and make it all look more uniform and less of a drastic top to bottom difference.  On top, keep some length that you can brush with your hands to the side. Don’t use shampoo that contains softening properties, otherwise your hair will look flat, thin, and come straight down to reveal your hairline.

Be Kind to Your Hair

Gone are the days when you could be careless with your hair. An effect of aging is that hair becomes more delicate. Lessen the times you wash your hair to 2-3 times per week at most. Don’t be rash when drying your head after a shower. Instead of rubbing that causes breakage, pat your head with a towel to dry. Go easy with the hair dryer; use it on a low setting, use cool air, or avoid the dryer altogether and let it air dry. Avoid cold showers as they constrict blood flow to the scalp.

Be Choosy with Your Products

Aging hair has its own styling requirements and therefore, requires its own products. A common issue among men our age is thinning. Combat this by using matte styling products like hair fiber pastes and texture clays. Invest in a good sea salt spray or mousse that can be a foundation for your styling product of choice. Don’t forget to carry a small comb to touch-up your hair, just in case your styling gets messed up. Using Argon oil is a great trick to add to your hair maintenance routine. It adds vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to your hair and scalp. It also helps to add shine, prevent breakage and damage, and can help assist with hair growth as well.

Go the Extra Mile

Caring for your hair doesn’t just involve what you do to your head. Diet and exercise play a big role in hair maintenance too. Make sure your body is getting nutrients like Vitamin C, Niacin and Biotin through diet or supplements. There are plenty of good multi-vitamin products available in the market specifically for healthy hair so you don’t have to lose any sleep over it. Speaking of sleep, make sure you’re getting plenty of it. Don’t forget to visit your happy place, as stress is one of the major causes of rapid hair loss.

Follow these tips and you’ll have less stress and more style in no time. And please, for everyone’s sake, don’t be the 70-year-old with stark black hair. You’re not fooling anyone.
